Objectives of the Practice:
1) To provide facilities that empower faculty and the students to perform any experimental work necessary to build prototypes and realize their innovative ideas.
2) To develop a scientific temperament and create an R&D ecosystem.
The Context: In the current global technological scenario, it is of paramount importance that we have the latest infrastructure facilities which can enable the faculty and students to conduct research on emerging technologies and develop appropriate solutions for societal problems to meet SDGs.
The Practice: Despite being a tier 2 institution all the laboratories are fully equipped with the latest equipment like measuring instruments, power sources, other auxiliary equipment, etc. A number of simulation tools can be used by students and faculty for research and study. All the classrooms are equipped with ICT facilities to enable the faculty to explain the content by various types of presentations which helps to hold the attention of students in a better way. Also, various online lectures can be presented.
a) The Vinuthana lab of the ECE department is equipped with the latest hardware and software tools like microcontroller development boards, Raspberry-pi latest version boards, NODEMCU, Matlab, NS2 Network Simulator, etc., which are available to everyone to develop a prototype to resolve real-world problems.
b) The Civil Engineering department utilizes the infrastructure to provide consultancy services to various Government and Non-Government organizations involving faculty and students.
c) The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering infrastructure is utilized in providing solutions to industries like KPTCL, CMC, and PWD in and around the Bidar District.
Evidence of Success: In the department of ECE, during the last two academic years 6 student projects have been sponsored by KSCST to the tune of Rs. 50,000/-. IOT lab has been set up in the department which is sponsored by VGST, Government of Karnataka. VGST also sponsored the HFSS simulator which is used in research involving radio and microwave antennas. During the same time around 5 scholars have completed their Ph.D research work using the existing facilities.
In an effort to meet the social cause and serve the community at large, GNDEC, Bidar regularly takes upvarious activities through the NSS wing of GNDEC, AICTE activity, Red Cross, and PMKVY.
1)To provide food, clothes, and other minimum required things to the needy.
2)NSS wing conducts various awareness programs on issues like alcohol addiction, tobacco addiction, andactivities like tree plantation, cleanliness, etc.
3) Under the RED Cross wing to provide the needy with blood, conduct free health checkups, etc.
The Practice: GNDEC regularly conducts health checkup camps at Guru Nanak Hospital, Bidar, blood donation to needy patients(students from the hostel do volunteer sometimes), various cleanliness programsin the city and in the surrounding villages, street plays on issues like domestic violence, food awareness,etc.
India being a developing nation still grapples with a number of issues prevailing on a large scale like poverty, illiteracy, and poor quality education, poor health infrastructure, economic disparities to name afew. To eliminate these issues and achieve the status of a developed country with overall better standardsof living, the Government, Industry, and Academic Institutions have to come forward and contribute in anyway possible like supporting the people with charity(providing food, clothes, books etc), provide educationto the needy, take care of the destitute, take measures for climate control and make every possible effort tomake the world a better place to live in.
